Hong Kong Ballroom Dancers International (HKBDI) was born on 14 Feb 11. Two promotion Parties were organized under the new name of HKBDI in 2011. Three Ranking DanceSport Championships all run by Come Dancing Studio Academy (CDSA) were registered in 2011. In 2012, there was 100% increase of 6 Ranking Championships, 3 of them by CDSA, 1 by International (HK) Dance Association & 2 by HKBDI.
HKBDI had her inaugural Championships in HK on 19/2/12 at the Tsim Sha Tsui Kaifong Welfare Association Hall, Kowloon. This first ever Championships organized by HKBDI was fortunate enough to be endorsed by BDFI and named as 1st HKBDFI Cup, the quality & quantity of competitors of which were beyond satisfaction.
Mr Lawrence Chan, the HKBDI new President in the new term of office from February 2013 to January 2015, moved a brave step by organizing the 2nd HKBDFI Cup in Bangkok, Thailand on 3rd February 2013. The HKBDI 2012 All Year Rounds Champions (for different categories) Prize Presentations were held in the evening Dinner Party. The recipient couples from Hong Kong were over the moon to receive their Awards in another country! The highlight of this special & unique event was the first time ever four Nations’ Invitational Professional & Amateur Team Match. All four team leaders – Uapan Snidvongs (Thailand), Aleena Tan (Singapore), Richard Kang (Malaysia) & Lawrence Chan (Hong Kong) had designed an Opening to please the audience. The Thailand team was awarded the Most Entertaining Award adjudicated by three independent judges – Dima Novikov (Russia), Barry Winters (UK) & Shiromi Perera (Sri Lanka).
Lawrence did not know how to thank the strong assistances & support by the two Thailand organizations – Dancing For Health Association & Uapan Dance Academy. Both of them urged Lawrence & HKBDI to fix the date of next championships in Bangkok as soon as possible !
